Equinox Announces Major Features in Evergreen 3.16

Atlanta, Ga., December 8, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to announce Evergreen 3.16, the latest release of the award-winning library software used by more than 1,800 libraries worldwide. Equinox’s development team contributed 8 major features, 6 minor features, and 10 of 32 bugfixes.

Features contributed by Equinox include single sign-on for library staff sponsored by North Carolina Community College Evergreen, built-in integration for Quipu eCARD and eRENEW services supported by the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System, circulation payments which can now be marked nonrefundable backed by the Kenton County Public Library, and the ability to search and display accessibility metadata from MARC bibliographic records, plus additional usability and accessibility improvements with support from the BC Libraries Cooperative.

Equinox also provided in-kind services for Evergreen 3.16 with Galen Charlton, Implementation and IT Manager, serving as Release Manager, and additional staff providing assistance and testing, including Andrea Buntz Neiman, Mike Rylander, Jason Boyer, Jason Etheridge, and Steve Callender.

“It was satisfying to release Evergreen 3.16 during the Evergreen Hack-A-Way in Columbia, Missouri,” said Charlton. “So much of what makes Evergreen significant is its community. Equinox Announces New Deadline for the 2025 Equinox Open Source Grant

DEADLINE EXTENDED: The deadline for the Equinox Open Source Grant is now December 19, 2025.

Launched in 2019, the Equinox Open Source Grant provides implementation, training, hosting, and support services for Koha ILS to eligible libraries and institutions. The grant is offered to organizations with technological or financial challenges that make it difficult to obtain or maintain an integrated library system. The Equinox Open Source Grant is provided for an initial term of three years and can be renewed if the recipient continues to qualify for the grant. Equinox Announces 2025 Q3 Project Contributions to Evergreen ILS

Atlanta, Ga., October 22, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to announce new development and other community contributions completed in Q3 of 2025 for Evergreen ILS.

Equinox staff are an active part of the anticipated fall 2025 Evergreen 3.16 release including Galen Charlton, Implementation and IT Manager at Equinox, who is serving as Release Manager. Equinox staff also served on maintenance release teams for Evergreen including Galen Charlton (3.14.10, 3.15.5) and Andrea Buntz Neiman, Project Manager for Software Development at Equinox, (3.14.9, 3.15.4, 3.15.3, 3.14.8). Recent projects for Evergreen have included contributions to the Evergreen OPAC search results and the holds table. The last quarter also included an accessibility review for headings, landmarks, labels, and layout within the OPAC. In the enhanced MARC editor of Evergreen, design updates have been made to the dark mode improving color contrast.

Equinox also provided several new Angular interfaces, including for the Item Status, Item Alerts Types, and the Acquisitions Patron Requests interfaces. In addition, progress continues on the Quipu integration and the Quipu eRENEW feature in the third quarter.

Equinox Welcomes Estacado Library Information Network to Koha ILS and Aspen Discovery

“Implementing MessageBee SMS has provided a huge improvement in service to our patrons,” said Lindsay Stratton, Integrated Library System Administrator and Systems Librarian at Westchester Library System. “Equinox’s assistance in the implementation was invaluable, managing all the necessary ILS configurations and coordinating with Unique for a seamless transition. Our patrons are reliably getting text messages, our front line staff are fielding fewer complaints, and our systems staff are happy that the messages are being delivered using modern and secure protocols.”

Westchester Library System provides administrative and technology support to 38 member libraries in Westchester County, New York, through shared ILS management, shared digital resources, cataloging assistance, training, and outreach programs. Westchester Library System was one of 23 public library systems established in 1958 by State Education Law.

Equinox at the 2025 Pennsylvania Library Association Conference

Atlanta, Ga., October 1, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, will be exhibiting at the 2025 Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) Conference in Erie, Pennsylvania, starting October 19, 2025 and running through October 22, 2025. Equinox will be available throughout the conference at Booth #37 to share information about Aspen Discovery, Evergreen ILS, Koha ILS, and more.

Equinox proudly supports Pennsylvania libraries and provides a variety of services for libraries and nonprofit organizations across the state. Equinox hosts Evergreen ILS and Aspen Discovery for the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System (PaILS), a large and growing consortium of more than 200 library locations, and serving approximately 1.6 million patrons with a collection of almost 2 million titles.  Equinox hosts Koha ILS for the Philadelphia Area Consortium of Special Collection Libraries (PACSCL). PACSCL is a consortium of special libraries with rare and diverse collections that focus on art, literature, history, science, and more. Equinox also provides VuFind® consulting services for the Historical Society of Pennsylvania.
