Equinox at the 2025 Evergreen Hack-A-Way

Atlanta, Ga., October 27, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to participate in the 2025 Evergreen Hack-A-Way, taking place in Columbia, Missouri from November 10, 2025 through November 12, 2025.

Equinox Announces 2025 Q3 Project Contributions to Evergreen ILS

Atlanta, Ga., October 22, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to announce new development and other community contributions completed in Q3 of 2025 for Evergreen ILS.

Equinox staff are an active part of the anticipated fall 2025 Evergreen 3.16 release including Galen Charlton, Implementation and IT Manager at Equinox, who is serving as Release Manager. Equinox staff also served on maintenance release teams for Evergreen including Galen Charlton (3.14.10, 3.15.5) and Andrea Buntz Neiman, Project Manager for Software Development at Equinox, (3.14.9, 3.15.4, 3.15.3, 3.14.8). Recent projects for Evergreen have included contributions to the Evergreen OPAC search results and the holds table. The last quarter also included an accessibility review for headings, landmarks, labels, and layout within the OPAC. In the enhanced MARC editor of Evergreen, design updates have been made to the dark mode improving color contrast.

Equinox also provided several new Angular interfaces, including for the Item Status, Item Alerts Types, and the Acquisitions Patron Requests interfaces. In addition, progress continues on the Quipu integration and the Quipu eRENEW feature in the third quarter.

Equinox Welcomes Estacado Library Information Network to Koha ILS and Aspen Discovery

Atlanta, Ga., October 13, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to announce that the Estacado Library Information Network (ELIN) has joined the Koha and Aspen Discovery communities with Equinox hosting and support. Equinox provided implementation services and training for ELIN’s migration to Koha and Aspen Discovery and will continue to host and support both systems.

“We have appreciated the support and help we received from Equinox during our migration to Koha,” said Nichole Lawless, Library Director for the City of Hobbs. “The Equinox migration team has been able to guide us as a consortium and as individual libraries. Our staff prefer Koha and patrons love the vibrant and intuitive interface in Aspen Discovery; especially now that they are able to view our digital offerings from our catalog.”

Equinox Partners with Unique Management Services to Launch MessageBee SMS for the Westchester Library System

“Implementing MessageBee SMS has provided a huge improvement in service to our patrons,” said Lindsay Stratton, Integrated Library System Administrator and Systems Librarian at Westchester Library System. “Equinox’s assistance in the implementation was invaluable, managing all the necessary ILS configurations and coordinating with Unique for a seamless transition. Our patrons are reliably getting text messages, our front line staff are fielding fewer complaints, and our systems staff are happy that the messages are being delivered using modern and secure protocols.”

Westchester Library System provides administrative and technology support to 38 member libraries in Westchester County, New York, through shared ILS management, shared digital resources, cataloging assistance, training, and outreach programs. Westchester Library System was one of 23 public library systems established in 1958 by State Education Law.

Equinox Open Library Initiative Sponsors AspenCon 2025

Atlanta, Ga., September 24, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to announce that Equinox is sponsoring AspenCon 2025 in Nashville, Tennessee at the Innovators level. Galen Charlton, Implementation and IT Manager, and Rogan Hamby, Data and Project Manager, will be presenting at two separate sessions during the conference which will be held from October 8, 2025 through October 10, 2025.

Hamby will present, “Tree to Forest: Cultivating Aspen Discovery at Different Scales,” on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at 4:15pm CST. The discussion will cover Equinox’s experience implementing Aspen Discovery across a spectrum of libraries, from complex statewide consortia to single-location institutions. Participants will get an inside look at how libraries of varying sizes are utilizing Aspen Discovery.

Charlton’s workshop, “Building Branded LiDA,” will be held on October 9, 2025 at 3:15pm CST. This in depth workshop will cover how to build, distribute, and update branded LiDA for libraries. Specific topics to be covered include setting up a development environment, configuring design, and releasing the app.

“LiDA allows libraries to reach a wider audience through their smartphones,” said Galen Charlton, Implementation and IT Manager at Equinox. “The aim of this workshop is to prepare libraries to effectively manage their deployments of LiDA. We are excited to offer this opportunity to libraries attending AspenCon.”

Equinox Announces 2025 Application for the Equinox Open Source Grant

Atlanta, Ga., September 22, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to announce that the 2025 application for the Equinox Open Source Grant will open on September 22, 2025. Launched in 2019, the Equinox Open Source Grant provides implementation, training, hosting, and support services for Koha ILS to eligible libraries and institutions. The grant is offered to organizations with technological or financial challenges that make it difficult to obtain or maintain an integrated library system. The Equinox Open Source Grant is provided for an initial term of three years and can be renewed if the recipient continues to qualify for the grant. Equinox to Present at the Koha-US 2025 Annual Conference

Atlanta, GA, August 28, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is excited to announce that Galen Charlton, Implementation and IT Manager at Equinox, will present as part of the upcoming Koha-US 2025 Annual Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, being held from September 2, 2025 to September 5, 2025.

Charlton joins Brian Pichman of ByWater Solutions for a panel discussion titled “Impact of AI on Libraries.” The session will cover how generative AI has led to new challenges for web-based library software and how these disruptions can be reduced. It is scheduled for September 5, 2025 at 1:30 p.m. ET.

“AI bot traffic and crawlers are presenting significant operational challenges to many library catalogs,” said Galen Charlton. “I’m looking forward to this discussion as an opportunity to examine the risks AI poses and explore how to preserve the ability of libraries to make their catalogs part of the open web.”

Equinox Welcomes North of Boston Library Exchange to Aspen Discovery

Atlanta, Ga., August 4, 2025 : Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to announce that the North of Boston Library Exchange (NOBLE) selected Equinox to provide implementation, hosting, and support for Aspen Discovery. Equinox also provided project management, system configuration, and training for consortium members.
