Equinox Announces Major Features in Evergreen 3.15

Equinox Press Release logo indicating that this post is a press release.

Atlanta, Ga., May 6, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to announce the release of Evergreen 3.15, the latest update to the award-winning library software used by more than 1,800 libraries worldwide. The Equinox team contributed fifty percent of the features appearing in the Evergreen 3.15 release.

Highlights of Equinox’s work for Evergreen 3.15 include:

  • Accessibility improvements for item notes, alerts, tags, and holdings templates in the cataloging module (Evergreen Collaborative Development Initiative).
  • Expansion of integration options through the addition of RESTful API endpoints and documentation for third-party developers (Evergreen Collaborative Development Initiative).
  • Addition of secondary permission group checks to the Equinox-developed Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) feature. MFA was initially released in October 2025 for Evergreen 3.14 (Pennsylvania Integrated Library System).
  • Restoration of the MARC Character Map feature, which is an important tool for catalogers and had been requested by the community for many years.

Equinox staff not only contributed to bugfixes and feature development for 3.15,  but also in-kind work as part of the Evergreen 3.15 release team. Andrea Buntz Neiman, Project Manager for Software Development, served as Release Manager for Evergreen 3.15. Other Equinox staff members on the release team include Galen Charlton, Implementation and IT Manager, and Jason Etheridge, Senior Developer. Additional contributions from Equinox staff include those by Stephanie Leary, Mike Rylander, Jason Boyer, Jennifer Weston, and Steve Callender.

“Evergreen 3.15 brings a lot of great features to the Evergreen community, especially RESTful API,” said Andrea Buntz Neiman, Project Manager for Software Development at Equinox. “RESTful API creates a modern, extensible, and well-documented set of endpoints. Third-party services like discovery layers and patron engagement tools now have a way to easily customize their software to make use of Evergreen’s data, while administrators have granular security controls to protect data and control sharing.”

“We are very excited to help bring RESTful API support to Evergreen,” said Mike Rylander, Research and Development Manager at Equinox. “It represents an important step that will simplify the ways third-party software providers can integrate with Evergreen’s backend and make use of its advanced and sophisticated business logic. We’re grateful to the Evergreen community and our development partners for making it possible.”

Evergreen 3.15 is the first release for 2025 and is part of Evergreen’s major release cycle with a spring and autumn release. More detail about Evergreen 3.15 can be found in the release notes here: https://evergreen-ils.org/documentation/release/RELEASE_NOTES_3_15.html

Equinox Welcomes Lansdale Public Library to Evergreen ILS with the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System

Equinox Press Release logo indicating that this post is a press release.

Atlanta, Ga., April 15, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to welcome Lansdale Public Library to Evergreen ILS with the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System (PaILS/SPARK).

“We’re thrilled with our decision to move to Evergreen with PaILS/SPARK,” said Mindy Lee Lipsky, Library Director at Lansdale Public Library. “The migration took planning, but the support from Equinox and PaILS made the process smooth and successful. SPARK’s features have made our workflows more efficient and scalable, and the test platform gave staff a chance to train before go-live. Overall, we’re working smarter and faster and we couldn’t be happier.”

The Lansdale Public Library was founded in 1928 with a single room and a dollar membership fee. Today they serve the borough of Lansdale with a population of 17,083 residents. By joining PaILS/SPARK, Lansdale Public Library’s patrons gain access to a significantly larger collection through resource sharing with other member libraries. Equinox provided implementation services during the migration and will continue to provide hosting and technical support.

PaILS was founded in June 2011 as a non-profit organization to provide an open source integrated library system for Pennsylvania libraries. It oversees SPARK, the Evergreen ILS managed by PaILS on behalf of its member libraries across Pennsylvania. Equinox and PaILS have worked together to support SPARK since 2013.

“The Lansdale Public Library is dedicated to providing a place of learning and inspiration for the community,” said Rogan Hamby, Data and Project Manager at Equinox. “It’s rewarding to offer the latest features and workflows to their library with Evergreen alongside the supportive community found in PaILS.”

Atlanta, GA, March 19, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to announce that Equinox will be presenting at the Electronic Resources and Libraries (ER&L) 20th Annual Library Conference in Austin, Texas. ER&L will run from March 23 through March 26, 2025. Full details about the upcoming conference can be found here: https://electroniclibrarian.org/.

Equinox staff members Stephanie Leary, Front End Developer, and Andrea Buntz Neiman, Project Manager for Software Development, will present, “Growing CORAL: An Open Source Community for Electronic Resources Management,” on Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 1:30pm CST.

“This CORAL update is a huge step forward in usability, accessibility, and internationalization,” said Stephanie Leary, Front End Developer at Equinox. “We’ve also made it much easier for newer developers to join the project to keep moving CORAL forward. We will present the changes and updates to CORAL, and demonstrate how other open source projects can approach similar issues.”

The CORAL community released two CORAL ERM updates in 2024 (2024.04 and 2024.10), both featuring significant contributions from Equinox. An additional update to the CORAL Resources module is anticipated in 2025.

“Equinox is proud of the work we have done alongside the CORAL community,” said Andrea Buntz Neiman, Project Manager for Software Development at Equinox. “We are looking forward to highlighting these ongoing efforts at ER&L.”

Equinox Welcomes the Northampton Area Public Library to Evergreen ILS with the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System

Atlanta, Ga., March 4, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to welcome the Northampton Area Public Library to Evergreen ILS with the Pennsylvania Integrated Library System (PaILS/SPARK).

“The entire team from Equinox and PaILS made migration completely painless,” said Veronica Laroche, Library Director at Northampton Area Public Library. “Equinox took care of everything including data transfer, customized notices, and training documentation. Any library looking to migrate to a different ILS should definitely consider Evergreen through Equinox, and if you’re in Pennsylvania, you’re in great hands with PaILS.”

The first library in Northampton opened in 1965. Today the Northampton Area Public Library serves the boroughs of Northampton, Bath, and Chapmans, as well as the townships of Allen, East Allen, Lehigh, and Moore. By joining PaILS/SPARK, Northampton Area Public Library’s patrons gain access to a significantly larger collection through resource sharing with other member libraries. Equinox provided implementation and training services during the migration and will continue to provide hosting and technical support.

“It is always a pleasure to help libraries in Pennsylvania take advantage of open source and the resources available through PaILS,” said Rogan Hamby, Data and Project Manager at Equinox. “Evergreen is a robust platform for consortia with a lot of wonderful features. We are excited to welcome Northampton Area Public Library as the newest member of PaILS.”
