Atlanta, Ga., September 21, 2026: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to announce that Equinox has completed the implementation of VuFind®, an open source discovery layer, for the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research (UCAR). Equinox will provide ongoing VuFind® hosting and support.
“Patrons can now learn if the Library has a book, e-book, journal, technical note, or archival resource with a single query,” said Sara Byrd, User Experience Specialist at UCAR Library and Archives. “Prior to implementing VuFind®, this was something that required five separate searches.”
The University Corporation for Atmospheric Research is a nonprofit consortium of 129 North American colleges and universities focused on research and training in Earth system science founded in 1959. UCAR manages the U.S. National Science Foundation National Center for Atmospheric Research (NSF NCAR). Equinox also provides hosting and support for UCAR’s Koha ILS which began in 2010.
“Equinox is glad to partner with UCAR to bring together their Koha, ArchivesSpace, Islandora, and e-journal holdings from 360Link into one place with VuFind®,” said Galen Charlton, Implementation and IT Manager at Equinox. “Finding information shouldn’t mean searching one system after another. Equinox is pleased to support UCAR and its communities with VuFind®.”
