“Making it Real: Preparing for BIBFRAME in Public Libraries” will be presented at 11:00am ET on Sunday, June 29, 2025 by Galen Charlton, Implementation and IT Manager at Equinox; Jennifer Weston, Product and Education Manager at Equinox; and BJ Colvin, Director of Information Technology Services at King County Library System (KCLS). The session will share the findings of Equinox’s research with KCLS on the use of BIBFRAME in public libraries and include a discussion of the potential challenges and requirements of BIBFRAME identified during the project, which was funded by the King County Library System Foundation. “BIBFRAME has been discussed for more than a decade as the successor to the MARC format, yet public libraries have had minimal representation on BIBFRAME task force initiatives,” said Jennifer Weston, Product and Education Manager at Equinox and Evergreen Cataloging Interest Group Leader and Founder. “We will present on Equinox’s research with KCLS regarding the feasibility of BIBFRAME use in public libraries. We are excited to share what we’ve learned and to have a broader conversation at ALA.”
