Equinox Announces Major Features in Evergreen 3.15

Atlanta, Ga., May 6, 2025: Equinox Open Library Initiative, a trusted leader in open source technology development and support for libraries, is pleased to announce the release of Evergreen 3.15, the latest update to the award-winning library software used by more than 1,800 libraries worldwide. The Equinox team contributed fifty percent of the features appearing in the Evergreen 3.15 release.

Highlights of Equinox’s work for Evergreen 3.15 include:

  • Accessibility improvements for item notes, alerts, tags, and holdings templates in the cataloging module (Evergreen Collaborative Development Initiative).
  • Expansion of integration options through the addition of RESTful API endpoints and documentation for third-party developers (Evergreen Collaborative Development Initiative).
  • Addition of secondary permission group checks to the Equinox-developed Multi Factor Authentication (MFA) feature. MFA was initially released in October 2025 for Evergreen 3.14 (Pennsylvania Integrated Library System).
  • Restoration of the MARC Character Map feature, which is an important tool for catalogers and had been requested by the community for many years.

Equinox staff not only contributed to bugfixes and feature development for 3.15,  but also in-kind work as part of the Evergreen 3.15 release team. Andrea Buntz Neiman, Project Manager for Software Development, served as Release Manager for Evergreen 3.15. Other Equinox staff members on the release team include Galen Charlton, Implementation and IT Manager, and Jason Etheridge, Senior Developer. Additional contributions from Equinox staff include those by Stephanie Leary, Mike Rylander, Jason Boyer, Jennifer Weston, and Steve Callender.

“Evergreen 3.15 brings a lot of great features to the Evergreen community, especially RESTful API,” said Andrea Buntz Neiman, Project Manager for Software Development at Equinox. “RESTful API creates a modern, extensible, and well-documented set of endpoints. Third-party services like discovery layers and patron engagement tools now have a way to easily customize their software to make use of Evergreen’s data, while administrators have granular security controls to protect data and control sharing.”

“We are very excited to help bring RESTful API support to Evergreen,” said Mike Rylander, Research and Development Manager at Equinox. “It represents an important step that will simplify the ways third-party software providers can integrate with Evergreen’s backend and make use of its advanced and sophisticated business logic. We’re grateful to the Evergreen community and our development partners for making it possible.”

Evergreen 3.15 is the first release for 2025 and is part of Evergreen’s major release cycle with a spring and autumn release. More detail about Evergreen 3.15 can be found in the release notes here: https://evergreen-ils.org/documentation/release/RELEASE_NOTES_3_15.html
